At the age of ten, Russian-born pianist Ilya Shmukler decided to devote his life to music. After graduating with top honours in Moscow, he is now honing his craft further at Park University in Missouri. The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung has already described this extraordinary talent as a “volcano”. For his programme, Shmukler has selected two towering masterpieces of the piano repertoire, each designed to reveal the countless dimensions of his artistry. Both works are not only technically demanding but also call for boundless musical imagination – something his teacher Stanislav Ioudenitch confidently says he has in spades!
